Convergent Viewpoints

The debate around AI and job replacement often focuses on the negative consequences of this technological advancement. However, the truth is that automation has been happening since the dawn of time, and debating over it replacing us and our jobs is basically seeking a non-solution to a non-problem.

Throughout history, technological advancements have led to automation and the displacement of jobs in certain industries. For example, the invention of the plow reduced the need for manual labor in agriculture, and the invention of the assembly line reduced the need for skilled labor in manufacturing. However, these advancements also led to the creation of new jobs in other industries and freed up workers for more creative and higher-value work.

The same is true with the current wave of automation driven by AI and other advanced technologies. Humans have always built tools, solutions, and technology that make our lives easier, and AI is just the latest step in this evolution. Yes, it comes with consequences, but who are we to judge how the cosmos chooses to evolve over a lifetime?

Reframing your Mindset

In most technological revolutions the majority of society tends to have a scarcity mindset when it comes to technological changes and advancements. Instead of having this scarcity mindset and asking yourself “Is AI going to replace me or my job?”, reframe your mindset to see positivity and growth as demonstrated in the examples below:

  1. Instead of viewing AI as a threat, see it as an opportunity to learn new skills and stay relevant in an ever-changing job market.

  2. Instead of assuming that AI is biased or unfair, work to ensure that AI is designed and implemented in a way that is ethical and equitable.

  3. Instead of feeling helpless or intimidated by AI, take the initiative to educate yourself about AI and how it works, so you can make informed decisions about its use and impact

The questions you should really be asking yourself to properly prepare for this transition are

1. How quickly is this transition going to happen?

2. What kinds of jobs or tasks will be eliminated and then based on the answer to these you should be able to figure out what skills or technologies you should be learning about to solidify your income and ensure you are educated on the latest breakthrough technologies and skills needed to thrive in the digital information age.

AI Automation and Job Displacement

The increasing adoption of artificial intelligence automation technologies is raising concerns about job displacement and economic inequality. While AI will automate some jobs, a PwC AI study has found that “any job losses from automation are likely to be broadly offset in the long run by new jobs created as a result of the larger and wealthier economy made possible by these new technologies.” Furthermore, PwC does not forecast large-scale technological unemployment as a result of automation.

In the “Future of Jobs Report”, the World Economic Forum estimates that 85 million jobs will be displaced while 97 million new jobs will be created across 26 countries by 2025. The fact that AI and automation may replace jobs is not a new phenomenon, as automation has been happening since the dawn of time. As Naval Ravikant once said on Joe Rogan’s podcast “I do believe that automation over a long enough period of time will replace every non creative job and non-creative work”. This shift could lead to more opportunities for individuals to focus on creative work, as they will be freed from mundane and repetitive tasks that can be automated. By embracing AI automation and recognizing its potential to enhance productivity and efficiency, individuals can shift their focus towards more creative pursuits and unlock new possibilities for innovation, growth and ultimately a more fulfilling and purposeful life.

AI Automation Opportunities for Businesses

While there are concerns about AI replacing jobs, it's important to remember that AI and automation also bring opportunities for businesses and employees to improve their productivity, increase their income, and create new jobs.

For businesses, the key is to adopt AI automation technologies in a swift, responsible and strategic way to achieve maximum ROI. This means investing in the right technologies that complement and enhance the work of human employees, rather than replacing them. For example, businesses can use AI and automation to automate repetitive and routine tasks, such as data entry or customer service, freeing up employees to focus on more complex and creative work.

Another way businesses can mitigate the risk of job displacement is by teaching their employees how to work with AI and automation technologies. This means providing training and education programs that equip employees with the skills and knowledge they need to work alongside AI, and taking a proactive approach to retraining employees whose jobs may be at risk of displacement.

AI Automation Opportunities for Employees

For employees, the key is to embrace the power of AI and automation as a tool that can help them enhance their skills and improve their productivity. This means being open to learning new skills and technologies, and actively seeking out opportunities to up skill and re skill. Employees who are able to work alongside AI and automation technologies will be in high demand in the job market, and will be better positioned to earn higher salaries and advance their careers.

Navigating The Shift in Education and Employment

With the rise in automation replacing non-creative work, individuals need to differentiate themselves by cultivating creative skills and pursuing interests that align with their passions. In addition, the traditional education system is no longer sufficient to keep up with the pace of change in our ever-evolving information age. Online courses and self-education through the power of social media can provide opportunities to pursue your genuine interests, passions and curiosities while allowing you to also learn about breakthrough technologies and modern skills that you can pair to actually use in the workforce. It’s crazy to think that most of the world doesn’t know Harvard, Princeton, Yale and many others offer free online courses. Value creators are those who dedicate themselves to pursuing their interests, take it on as their life's work to explore them, and distill the information they learn in the form of valuable and educational content.

Building a More Equitable and Prosperous Future with AI and Automation

In summary, the rise of AI and automation technologies presents both challenges and opportunities. By adopting these technologies in a responsible and strategic way, investing in retraining and education to up-skill employees, and embracing the power of AI and automation as a tool to increase efficiency for growth and innovation, together we can mitigate the risks of job displacement and build a more equitable and prosperous future for all.
